Phantasm II (1988)

Hey guys, sorry about the break, just moved, found a job, and re-connected with old friends again, but now that I got everything back on track, let’s talk about Phantasm II. This was my first viewing of the second one, having only seen the first one, and I have to say, I like Phantasm a lot more after this one, and can’t wait to see the rest.

Mike, the kid from the first movie, is back after a six year stay in an institution, and after meeting up with his uncle Reggie, who’s family is killed right away, they go off together to track down Liz, Mike’s psychic girlfriend to be, and The Tall Man, to put an end to his reign of terror.

Phantasm II has quite a few flaws in it, the acting from the supporting cast seems to be pretty null, while the main cast handles themselves quite well. I love Angus Scrimm, who’s name could be used for a slasher already, as The Tall Man, he brings a very malevolent pressence to the film. Paula Irvine, who played Liz, seems to go from delivering lines well, to botching them up completely. She also has that look, as if you remember her from something else, but she has had a very small acting career and retired in the early 90s.

There isn’t all that much gore in the film, but when there it is it a treat to look at. We get to see people melting from the inside out, burned alive, dismembered, it’s awesome. One of my favorite moments in the film comes when a preist uses the word of god against The Tall Man, only to be hung by his own crucifix, showing just how much power god has over The Tall Man.

If your a fan of the first one, and haven’t seen the second ,I think you should check it out, it’s a fun little movie. Or if your like me, and not to big on the first one, maybe this will change your mind. Either way, just go in looking to have some fun, you’ll find it here.

Trailer Park Of Terror (2008)

What does drugs, Asian massage, deals with the devil, and deep fried jerky all have in common? Well that’s an easy one, they’re all at the Trailer Park Of Terror!

Trailer Park Of Terror is an odd movie, based on a comic which is more then likely odder, but I haven’t read it. It’s a movie about a zombie trailer park, filled with gore, sex, and hit or miss humor. So why don’t you sit down with me for a minute and we’ll take a look inside.

The film starts with Norma, a sweet trailer park slut trying to leave the trailer park with her boyfriend. He see’s her for the good in her, and doesn’t care about any of the rest, isn’t that sweet. But through some very witty dialog we’re shown just how shitty life is in the trailer park, since all the people in it are absolute assholes, who get her lover killed. This leads Norma to make a deal with a very well acted devil, go back to the trailer park, kill everyone, and burn it down with her inside. Ouch.

Jump forward 20-30 years, we’re following a bus of troubled teens, and their youth pastor who have the misfortune of crashing just outside of the trailer park. But wait, didn’t I just say it was burned to the ground? That’s right, I did, but it’s back. As they go to look for help they come across Norma, and the ghoulish trailer park inhabitants. Will they make it through the night, or will they never again leave the Trailer Park Of Terror?

I like this film, but just barely, it borders on the line. Now that being said, you’ll be expecting a 50ish rating, but no. The reason it borders on the line is the humor, it’s very very sexual. We’re talking hand jobs to corpses, rape, abuse, prostitution, and more, and it’s all done in a comedic way. I found some of it funny, but it really felt like they just keep throwing it at you for shock value, and I got bored of it quickly. Besides that it really is a fun movie.

There is a lot of gore in this one, but none of it is realistic. There’s your dismemberment, and people being eaten, shot etc.  But one scene did seem to stand out above the rest. One of the ghouls, is making jerky out of one of the teens, cuts off his skin, and shoves it in his mouth. The way the skin looked, was quite disgusting. That is followed up by the kid, now completely skinned, being deep fried alive.

The acting in this movie is nothing special from the teens or Norma, but the other members of the Trailer Park Of Terror ( sorry I just love that name) are acted out quite well, and are always a treat when their on the screen.  Even the guy who constantly plays guitar on the roof of his trailer. At least the songs are good.

Check this one out if your in the mood to turn your mind off, and just watch some ghouls wreck havoc on some kids.

Final Destination 2 (2003)

So it’s been three years, and if your not following movie news,  there’s been nothing new from Final Destination, it’s looking like that was it. That’s fine. It was a good movie, and the ending didn’t call for another one. But it showed up, and it was alright, but it just came and left.

The story is pretty weak, we start with a crash, and a vision like last time. Kimberly (played by A.J. Cook) is going off with her friends to drive some where, it really doesn’t matter what they were doing, no one ever finishes what they set out to do in this series. As they get on to the highway, we get treated with a much gory vision scene then the first movie, of a highway pile up. There’s log’s going through peoples hears, people on fire, people ran over, etc.

So we get our group of people Death’s going to pick off, time to watch the fun begin. Before the movie’s done , we’re greeted with  images of kid’s being crush by glass, his body just exploding , impaling, decapitation, dismemberment, you name it. It happens this time. It’s quite a bit more then the first movie, and I know, the first movie had some good stuff , like the train decapitation, but nothing like this. The last film worked it’s way up to it, this one just throws it out at every chance it gets.

As the story moves along, we start having mini visions that we have to figure out the meaning behind, and learn that they all would of died if Alex didn’t get off the plane. We also get to see Clear again, but now she’s a blonde, and lives in an asylum, but that’s cool. Also Alex got killed by a falling brick. How lame. He was so badass in the first, and a fucking brick takes him out. Oh well.

Anyway, I like the film, it’s pretty cheesy, but the deaths are neat, and the acting isn’t terrible. I mean they even got the guy who does the voice of Kratos! At least it tried to be something adult. I mean it could be all about teens at a carnival….oh wait.

Evil Dead (1981)

This is kind of cheating for a review, so I might edit it later but…

GREATEST MOVIE EVER.

Alright,  I’m editing it finally, there’s alot to say about Evil Dead. Let’s start with my obsession with it. By  the time I was 16, I had seen Evil Dead more then 100 times, even having all the audio from the movie on my ipod so I could relive it at school. Everything about it was right for  me, from the acting, oh my lovable Bruce Campbell, to the blood at every turn. Even the fact that wigs would change from scene to scene made me happy.
The movie is about a bunch of college kids going to a cabin for a weekend, getting possessed, and killed  off in gory and gory ways, until the end cluster fuck of blood and guts.
